Orchid and Navy
One of my favourite designs to date.
An incredibly chic Asian or Oriental style cake with pure white orchids made from sugar, deep midnight blue, and finished with understated edible gold leaf to lift the design as a whole to something extraordinary.
I have created a few black cakes and I do love the way colours pop against the dark background, however it is a strong look and maybe a little too harsh for some. The midnight blue is a much softer option and has always been a very classy tone. A muted aubergine or ochre would also work very well.
The pure sugar crafted white orchids stand out beautifully against the blue and gold and it is these that are the star of the cake. With the correct lighting these will hold their own even in a large venue.
The overall look is one of balanced elegance, with the oriental feel lifting it well out of the ordinary.
Would suit an opulent but stylish wedding with a very modern edge. The cake would compliment a chic boutique hotel wedding or a theme with a rich colour scheme with touches of gold. The cake can be scaled up or down to suit or teamed with matching mini cakes for your guests to enjoy, with an effect similar to the royal wedding I catered for in Abu Dhabi.
Team with an elegant dessert table and fresh white orchids and lots of foliage.
